Draw Procedure and Pots for the 2020 Lower League eCup Knockout Stage Draw

by Joe Meyer

The draw for the 2020 Lower League eCup Knockout Stage will take place on Monday, May 4th at 9:00pm Eastern!

Both the Xbox and PS4 divisions are made up of 48 players/clubs. The top 16 players in each division have been awarded byes to the second round of the knockout stage.

Pot A will consist of the top 16 players, the group winners and top-runner ups (three in PS4, four in Xbox One). Players in Pot A have secured a first round bye and can’t play another Pot A club until the Round of 16. Pot B will consist of the remaining 32 players, who will all enter in the first round.

For the draw, two teams from Pot B will be drawn, followed by one team from Pot A. The two teams drawn from Pot B will play each other in the first round, with the winner facing the team drawn from Pot A in the second round.

The first teams drawn will be placed in the upper left hand corner of the bracket, filling out the entire left side of the bracket, before hopping back up to the upper right hand corner and filling out the right side of the bracket.

The pots and qualified teams for the knockout stage draw can be found below! Action begins Thursday night, with the majority of first and second round matches held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. As a reminder, players will play their first and second round matches in the same night.

Note: If for any reason during the draw there is a technical error, we will treat the two Pots independently. Here's what will be used in the following scenarios. These are highly unlikely, and have many safeguards to prevent this, but I'll share in the interest of fairness.

Example = A team is drawn out of Pot A/B, when the order of the draw dictates that the next player should have come from the other Pot. Ruling = Retroactively bump each team to their original draw position based on order of draw. If for example, a second team is drawn out of pot A, or a third team is drawn out of Pot B, whether it be from paper sticking, a technical error, etc. The players should be placed in the bracket in the order that they were drawn in their pot. For instance, 10th team drawn out of Pot A should be placed in the position originally designated for the 10th team to be drawn out of Pot A, regardless of which two teams they were originally paired with on air. Again, highly unlikely, but this is in the interest of transparency.

The footage of the draw will be reviewed afterwards to check for any mistakes.
